Bill,
So it sounds as though none of the guys in the depth charts are anywhere close to being ready to even sit at the end of the bench at the NHL level. What do you think is most likely if Bryz is bought out? The speculated trade for Bernier or the UFA route a la Emery?

Best way to fix goalie problems is to draft fucale. If he is there at 11.

FA preferably, though I don't think Emery would be a good fit this time around.

Bill, is there any animosity on the part of Ericsson (for not being signed the first time) that may have led him to want move on from the Flyers?

I wouldn't be surprised, but if we knew what the teams offered, we'd have a better idea. It seems he would have just as good a chance to make the big club here as he would in Vancouver.

You would obviously know best.

Then it would be a contractual or an opportunity issue?

Eriksson let his agent make the decision. Was just a business decision.

I think a bernier and mason tandem sounds awesome but isn't bernier a bit undersized ??

I don't like the idea of trading something for a young unproven gaolie. We just got one of thpse fpr next to nothing. Older cheap vet for a yr or two would be ideal IMHO.

I agree and disagree can't have enough young goalies with potential. If its a straight up trade read for bernier I think it's a good deal

Agreed, and I'm not sold we can resign Read so he might be gone after this year anyway. Having two potential high caliber NHL goalies is obviously a crapshoot, but its high risk/high reward, but I'm more comfortable with that tandem VS Boucher/Leighton going into the season.

That's a big reach and ignores other needs. If they traded down and Fucale was there at 24 or so, I wouldn't hesitate to grab him

Perhaps Mason and Bryzgalov are better than him

There are a lot of good goalies out there that could bennefit from a change:
Halak
Hiller
Bernier
Miller
Price
Fleury

Plus it's competition it would make both goalies better

My issue with trading Read for Bernier is, you're trading a valuable asset for a huge unknown. Despite his potential, very possible Bernier struggles as a full time starter. The kid only has 62 games of NHL experience.

That worked well for Mason last year in Columbus.

Agreed, but what if we don't resign Read? At least we're getting something for it at this point, that could be an area if need if they buy out bryz
